One of Bimal Roy’s most poignantly memorable films, winning him the Filmfare award, Sujata is the story of youth daring convention. Uprendra Chaudhry (Tarun Bose) and his wife Charu (Sulochana) have only one child - a daughter, Rama (Shashikala). But a serve cholera epidemic brings another child to their home - a baby girl who had lost both her parents in the epidemic.
Nutan’s performance is one of the finest of her career, and won her the Filmfare award in 1959. S.D. Burman, Bimal Roy’s favourite composer underlines the haunting beauty of this film with evergreen greats like “Sun Mere Bandhu Re” “Jalte Hain Jiske Liye”, “Tum Jiyo Hazaaron Saal” and “Bachpan Ke Din”.
