An all-star cast spearhead this exercise in social realism.
Jackie (Richard Attenborough) is poor and lives with his widowed mother. He dreams of marrying the girl across the street, Kitty, whom he loves. In a bid to escape the poverty trap, he agrees to participate in a robbery that goes wrong ending up with a three years stint in Borstal. There he meets various characters who are planning an escape and although initially sceptical, he is persuaded by Alfie (Dirk Bogarde) to join the team. But what if it fails?
