Just twenty four hours after being 'called to the bar', young Roger finds himself fighting a case in court when his absent-minded boss (Miles Malleson) is urgently summoned to another trial. The trouble is, he forgets to tell Roger whether he's acting to the defence or the prosecution! Just when it seems that it's all too much for Roger, enter professional scrounger Alfred Green (Terry Thomas), a seasoned swindler who teaches Roger that - while the law may not be broken - it can certainly be stretched and bent a bit...
